One is One and All Alone
Reflecting on my work when writing my Artist’s Statement for my website, I realized how much ‘solitary’ art I had made. Quite inadvertently many of my paintings depict one bud or flower, one fungi, one fish, one tree or a door in a building.
To me this suggests my only-child upbringing has wider influence than anticipated and continues to reverberate. It also indicates my inclination to look closely at things and to find interest in the details. By removing them from the wider context I bring them into focus making them ‘larger’ for you the viewer.
Do you see ongoing childhood influences in your life?
