Float The origins for Float go way back to my art student days at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax when an art school quasi-science project morphed into a photography project.
I was playing with the fading of one colour into another, while taking photos of bottled coloured water against a striped background.
That was a pre-digital time when taking photos meant shooting with film and, in this case, manually controlling the camera. By using a soft focus I’d found intriguing, evocative and abstract images could be achieved.
From the many photos I shot I chose this one to paint. I always meant to produce a series of paintings from these photos but my work moved on. Maybe one day the other photos will become a Float Series but for the moment there is only the one Float painting.
